Neurodiversity Week
Every year in school, we celebrate Neurodiversity week which allows us to celebrate that everyone is unique. This year’s Neurodiversity week was all about celebrating our own unique strengths and difficulties and understanding that everyone’s brains work differently. Neurodiversity Celebration Week is one way of reminding everyone of the importance of being kind and accepting of everyone.
KS2 attended an assembly and learnt that differences in the way our brains are wired means that sometimes we can be good at some things and not so good at other things. The children were also introduced to neurodivergent terminology such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Tourette’s Syndrome in a child-friendly way. The children then completed activities in class to understand their own strengths and difficulties.
In class, KS1 children were introduced to the term ‘neurodiversity’ and spent time discovering their own strengths.
The AWARE charity also came into school for a parent workshop on the support services they offer for families of neurodivergent children in the Bradford district.
